Nicole Scherzinger has won her first Tony Award for her performance as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, in a Broadway transfer of the Jamie Lloyd production that originally premiered at the Savoy Theatre in London.

The musical, featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, transferred to Broadway following a critically acclaimed West End run. Scherzinger, best known for her career as lead singer of The Pussycat Dolls and for appearances in Cats and The Masked Singer, earned a WhatsOnStage Award and an Olivier Award for the London spell.

Its Broadway incarnation retained much of the original UK creative team, with Scherzinger joined by Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett Young as Betty Schaefer, and David Thaxton as Max von Mayerling.

The production also picked up further nominations for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Direction for Lloyd, who has become a regular fixture on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years with revivals of Evita, Cyrano de Bergerac, Much Ado About Nothing, A Doll’s House and The Seagull.
